After 40-odd years with 40-Odd ventures, each one with its own unique story, many of them successful and others not so, with all their ups and downs, it's time to ride up again! Starting with a Plywood business, traversing through a stream of different activities like Computer Education, Refrigeration, Food, Garments, Sports, Electricals, Pollution Control, Pyrolysis, Solar Energy, Retail and now E-Comm, it has been an exciting, thrill filled, sometimes scary but a very rewarding journey. But people around you will always ask only one question – where is the money! And here we are, out to make some good money along with some real good people. As we grow our E-Comm business – greenmor.io, I will continue to share our experience and look forward to your feedback/guidance. Why we are doing this? There were and are insane number of people who would believe that we would succeed hugely. One such person was my brother who passed away a year ago. I owe it to him and a lot more people around me that we succeed, and succeed hugely. But most importantly, I love to build businesses. The joy of creating solutions and see them succeed has been the most exciting experience of my life. How prepared we are? Better than ever! Technically, emotionally, intent or focus, take any parameter, we are in a great shape. The only issue is that of finance but we have removed the need for additional funds for running the show. In that sense, we are better prepared even financially. As we add Franchisees and Vendors to our family, our support system is going to be rock solid and self sustaining. What else can go wrong? Any thing. Any time. We closed down 4 businesses during lockdowns in last 2 years. One of the business was started during the lockdown. It has been a slugfest, cruel and brutal. We may face a few more challenges in the future. But now we are not scared or embarrassed. We are now prepared with better process and attitude. Be it Online or Offline, Direct selling or B2B, Fulfilment, Logistics or any possible eventuality, we are ready to deal with. What is the timeline? Aim to be a Unicorn during my lifetime! Too much to ask for? Not at all. Given our experience in various types of activities and preparation for the project, this is a doable target. What do I want? I am thankful that you have cared to read my story. You can help me in many ways. You can spread the word about us or join us as a vendor or franchisee or customer. Even a thought about us will go a long way to support. God has been always kind to us to open bigger door after every set back. Many of you will become those doors. My heart is already filled with gratitude. Will I be rich? / Here's what she said to me / Que sera, sera / Whatever will be, will be / The future's not ours to see / Que sera, sera / What will be, will be." Of the many things we all would like to be, being rich is definitely one of the most common goals we have. 7 out of 9 autocomplete suggestions for "Top 10 Ways" on Google are about how to make more money! And why not, as Mark Cuban says, being rich is a good thing. Unfortunately, while most of us strive to be rich, not as many of us understand the number one hindrance in becoming rich is our mindset that money is difficult to get. It isn't. This mindset only keeps us trapped in the rat race. We start looking at secure places to make money (jobs), entrusting other people to grow our money (stock market, savings plan), all the while being fearful and never living to our full potential. Although there is nothing wrong with having a security net, the possibility of making it big is always going to be restricted with this approach. And if you're looking, an easy and effective way to break free from this psyche is to understand that your best investment is you. Not your job, not your savings, but you. And what does investing in oneself mean? There are many answers to this question, but I would say it is to become enterprising. To learn and develop the ability to seek new ways of doing things. To grow out of your box. To be able to live unencumbered. And this is what we look forward to achieving in Greenmor. Creating a new generation of entrepreneurs who will create a new set of rules for the market. The riches will follow. Whether at school, or at play or at home, anything that you still remember and that has had a lasting impact on you. It is most likely all your learning has come from curiosity. It could have been fun, tiring or painful even, but in any case it was most probably your curiosity that led you to try, experience and go through the process to learn and imbibe it. No other factor, be it fear, peer-pressure or for that matter, great rewards, excites us enough to learn. This zeal to learn breaks all our boundaries and the need for validation. Whether a discovery was made, a revolution was started or a great business was built, it was because someone was curious and excited or as we say, enterprising enough to embark upon a journey of possibilities. Fortunately, it's an ingrained human trait. Unfortunately, most of our institutions are designed to curb that trait if not destroy it. Let's for example take the B-Schools. How many students are actually ready to start a business once they are out of college? According to sources published on statista.com, only about 50% of MBA graduates are employable. No data is given on how many are business ready. If I had to assess, it would be anywhere between 1-5%. So, if a B-School's job is only to make you job-ready, and even that is not done right, where does one learn to become an entrepreneur? A lot of fancy terms associated with being an entrepreneur such as risk-taking ability, innovativeness, emotional quotient, passion, critical thinking and so on, are the products of curiosity. No entrepreneur pre-learns these skills before starting a business nor can it be taught by anyone. It only begins with your business. The more time you spend inquisitively in your business, the more skills you pick-up of being an entrepreneur. Simply put, to learn to become an entrepreneur, start your own business. Failures may be plenty, but rewards are always bigger. That being said, many of us may be fearful of starting a business. So, if you want to start your own business but need support, get yourself a swimming tube. Here are a few options: Join A Family Business; Become A Greenmor Franchisee; Partner With Friends; or Hire A Mentor. Caveat: This blog is not about how bad or good business schools are, it is about entrepreneurship and the skill set required for it. A business degree alone may not help you to navigate your path to a successful business. If you already have a business degree, get into a business of your choice at the earliest to reach your best potential. Best, Niyati Sethia, Co-Founder, Greenmor ### Don't Be Afraid By Narendra Sethia, Founder · 2022-08-20 Job vs business. This debate has raged since time immemorial. Why is a business called risky and a job called safe? I think the initial thought process itself is faulty. A young person will spend a considerable amount of resources on being ready for a job despite the success rate of less than a percent. A degree in business management is useful for getting a job rather than running a business! On the other hand, most people get into a business almost unprepared and still expect instant results. This is unfair. Success in any business, like in any job, depends upon how much preparation has gone into it. A business needs preparation: you should understand the product you make or deal in, its market fit, your emotional and financial strength in dealing with contingency, your expectations and willingness to allot your resources, especially your time. But the most important factor in setting up a business is - excitement. Visualise the business processes that you will be going through while conducting the business, like interactions with people, looking at the business through accounts, solving problems and troubleshooting. If you are in love with these processes, you will never have to worry about a failure. We, at Greenmor, are a family that loves creating businesses. Let's remember, nothing works in the short run. Like any other stream, Iteration and Persistence together are the most important factors to establish a successful business. It's best to visualise a long drawn out scenario and prepare accordingly. If you are planning to start, change or add to your career, I strongly suggest business as an option. If you are in doubt, feel free to get in touch with me. I will be happy to share my experience and guide you with all possible help. Don't be afraid. Just do it! Best, Narendra Sethia, Founder, Greenmor ### You Don't Need To Be An Amazon To Succeed In Online Business By Niyati Sethia, Co-Founder · 2022-08-27 If someone were to ask you to name a few e-commerce websites, Amazon will probably be first on that list. But if someone were to ask you to recommend a home-decor seller or perhaps a place to buy shoes, you are likely to refer to someone more known to you. Someone you've experienced more closely, interacted with on a personal level and built a relationship with, thereby worthy of your referral. Every business needs referrals and all business people know that their customers are their best ambassadors. No amount of advertisement or publicity can match the influence of a customer. A happy customer will rope in others and an unhappy one will repel a lot more. But, what exactly is it that makes a business remarkable enough for its customers to talk about it? It's their experience with the business. The ability to maneuver through a customer's need is far better in smaller businesses than larger ones for one single reason alone; ownership. To be willing to put out the best version of oneself or to strive to give someone the best experience only comes with ownership. And ownership cannot be inculcated, it has to be taken. In their zeal to appeal to bigger audiences, larger businesses tend to focus on the numbers. Price, costs, discounts, audience size, ratings — all volume driven and not experience driven. But you don't have to play by those rules. They were never meant for you. Don't try to serve the masses, serve a community. Build a niche. There will always be enough business for everyone.
